Is It Unspiritual to Be Depressed?

Did the Fall and the Curse cause depression and anxiety in the world? Firstly, we need to explain what depression and anxiety are. Depression involves a persisting low mood. Depressed people feel an almost constant state of sadness. It does not matter how happy you look to the outside world, if your heart and mind are being torn apart every waking minute, life sometimes seems so bleak. But surely if I am a Christian, I cannot get depressed? See what I have, the love of Jesus, see what I have to look forward to, an everlasting life in Glory with my Saviour. Or maybe that means I am not really saved, because if I were really saved God would not punish me like this. But we can take comfort that even David felt sorrow ‘How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart?’ (Psalm 13:1–2).
